A rephotographic pairing of a 1940 Glacier National Park archival photograph with a 2011 contemporary view. Although more snow is present, it is apparent the glacier's terminus has receded. GNP is expected to have lost all glaciers by 2030. 1940-2011.

Tyndall Glacier as viewed from the summit of Flattop Mountain. The glacier is clearly reduced compared to the original 1916 photograph. The rock outcropping in the middle foreground has also eroded. Long's Peak, the Chasm, Mt. Meeker, and Mill's Moraine as viewed from the summit of West Twin Sister's Peak. Noticeable reforestation can be seen in the modern day image as well as a reduction in size of Mill's Glacier at the base of Long's Peak, possibly due to glacial retreat. Possible snowpack loss is also observable on the snowfields on either side of Long's Peak, the right snowfield being known as 'The Dove'. Original image provided by Willis. T. Lee as a part of Geological Survey Bulletin 730-A. Rocky Mountain National Park. 1916-2014.

Copeland Mountain with Copeland Lake in the foreground. Along with reforestation, it appears that the water level of the lake has receded. Original image by W.T. Lee. 1916-2014.
